Home Again: An Emigrant Family Returns to Ireland
By Jim Hagarty
Published 1999 by Christine Manor Productions, Stratford, Ontario, Canada
This is an ambitious family history project that kept expanding till it became a 390-page, hardcover treatise with dozens of photos and stories and the biographies of the eight kids who were raised in the cottage in Ireland pictured on the cover in the early 1800s. During and following the Famine, all eight kids and their parents made their way to North America where they lived out their lives.
This book serves as a template for what family histories can look like and while it is based around one family, the author’s Hegarty ancestors, it contains a lot of interesting facts and tales from Irish, Canadian and American history.
Home Again sells for $50 (all currencies) with a $20 fee for shipping to out of towners. It can be purchased by emailing Jim Hagarty at hagarty@cyg.net.
